Modern Greek Language on Paros: A Class by the Aegean

NOTE: This course starts on the island of Paros and ends in Athens.  Students should arrange to arrive on Paros on June 16th in order to check-in Hotel Narges  at the town of Aliki between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Ferry transportation from Paros to Athens (for the Athens segment of the program) is included in the program fee.

During the three weeks on the majestic island of Paros and the picturesque fishing village of Aliki -in the middle of the Aegean Sea- and the one week in Athens, the historical capital of Greece, students will share the unique opportunity to learn, to feel the beat of one of the oldest and richest speaking languages of the world!

Essential Information

The course starts on the island of Paros and ends in Athens. Students should make international travel arrangements accordingly.  Transportation between destinations of the course (Paros to Athens), as well as during day excursions, is included in the course fee.

 This course involves travel.  Be wary of overpacking.  Pack only what you can carry comfortably, because you will be required to check- in and out of accommodations, and carry your luggage on and off a boat. It will also be useful to bring with you travel-size cosmetics instead of full-size ones.

Enrolled students will have access to detailed arrival information prior to departure that will include directions to Hotel Narges at the village of Aliki, and other practical information. CYA recommends the following websites for general information about Athens and  Greece: and


On Paros, students will be housed in air-conditioned double- or triple-occupancy rooms at Hotel Narges.  In Athens students will be housed within walking distance of the CYA Academic Center in either CYA student apartments located in the Pangrati neighborhood of central Athens or in hotel accommodations arranged by CYA. CYA apartments are simply furnished and equipped with a full kitchen and air-conditioned bedrooms; towels, linens and housekeeping service will be provided.


On Paros classes will take place at Hotel Narges.  In Athens, classes will be held at the CYA Academic Center located next to the Athens Marble Stadium. The Academic Center houses classrooms, the library, the student lounge and cafeteria, laundry facilities, and administrative offices.  Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the buildings. The Academic Center is accessible Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.


While on Paros, breakfast will be offered at the Hotel.  When class is in Athens a full mid-day meal will be served weekdays in the CYA cafeteria between the hours of 12:00-3:00 p.m.   A welcome and a farewell meal are also included in the course fee.


A series of activities will be included in the daily program, both on Paros and in Athens: Indicatively: port town of Paroikia – visit and sightseeing; Antiparos – swimming;  hiking and walking on ancient paths by the sea or on the hills; day trips by boat to nearby islands on a weekend; cooking or dance class lessons; walking tour of Athens; visits to the Acropolis, Acropolis museum, Cape Sounion.

Note: Some of these activities may be optional, requiring a fee for participation such as purchase of boat tickets for a weekend trip, etc.
