Dear Augusta Holyfield, based on your experience with CYA, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester or summer abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
I think that studying abroad is a wonderful way to gain a new perspective on both the world and your own life. By experiencing a different culture and language, you will also begin to see your own culture and language in a different light. I also believe studying abroad makes you more adaptable and less quick to judge. There will be things you don't know or things you don't understand. By confronting that discomfort, you become better at asking for help or living with uncertainty, which I think are important skills in personal, academic, and professional life.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and take risks. Try things that are outside your comfort zone. Get off the beaten path and don't feel tied to a plan. There is so much that Athens has to offer and the best way to experience the city is to allow those experience to happen on their terms.
How was the political climate in Greece different from what are you used to? If applicable, describe a time when you had to navigate a political conversation during your time abroad.
