Based on your experience with CYA, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester or summer abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
As cliche as it sounds, CYA study abroad changed me as a person and student. I’d never been on a plane, let alone traveled internationally, so this was a formative experience for me in many ways. As someone who’s preparing to go into the field of Advertising, it was helpful to expand my worldview and broaden my understanding of people and cultures beyond my community. Getting to know people outside of your local culture is really important in most professional environments which will likely cater to wide audiences.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?
My advice would be to go ahead and apply if you are considering studying at CYA. Many of my peers didn’t apply because they didn’t know if it would be feasible, but it’s worth trying. For students who are interested in studying at CYA through UNC-CH, I strongly recommend applying by the official (not extended) deadline at UNC in order to be considered for SA office scholarships.
