Based on your experience with CYA, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester or summer abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying or living abroad offers a level of immersion unmatched by vacation travel. For people who want to discover and immerse themselves in a completely different culture and live in an unfamiliar way, studying abroad offers this opportunity. Every day feels novel because you know that your time is limited and you compare every moment to whatever 'normalcy' you may be used to. This drastic change of lifestyle forces you to open your mind to how differently people can live around the world, what their daily routines are, and the cultural quirks that could be found just by walking down the street. Studying abroad has affirmed my professional pursuit of archaeological work abroad, and has personally made me more accepting of cultural differences.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?
Students should definitely take some time to think about studying abroad before committing, they should also be coached on day-to-day life so that they have healthy expectations that should lessen the culture shock.
