Accelerated Beginning Modern Greek I
An accelerated section of the elementary Modern Greek course for beginners with a background in Ancient Greek
Elementary Modern Greek for beginners with a background in Ancient Greek language or students of Greek descent with some knowledge of the language. By the end of this course students will be able to handle orally a variety of daily life situations (introducing oneself, describing family, ordering coffee and food, making reservations, shopping, requesting and understanding directions, expressing wishes and aims, describing events in the past, and make plans for the future etc. Students will acquire daily vocabulary and basic grammatical structures; and will also be able to write simple letters and short stories. Moreover, cultural elements and everyday life experiences are discussed in class informally linked to the language materials.
CYA strongly encourages students to study Modern Greek while they are in Athens. CYA believes that the study of this lesson provides valuable access to the life and culture of contemporary Greece and aids in the acculturation of students.
Accelerated Beginning Modern Greek I is taken in the first Semester of the first year.
