Beginning Modern Greek I

Elementary Modern Greek for beginners (MGKL101) or for those with no or very little knowledge of the language. By the end of the course, students will be able to handle orally daily life situations (introducing oneself, describing family, ordering coffee and food, making reservations, buying tickets, shopping, requesting and understanding directions etc); will acquire daily vocabulary and basic grammatical structures; and will also be able to write simple letters and brief texts. Moreover, cultural elements and everyday life experiences are discussed in class informally linked to the language material.

CYA strongly encourages students to study Beginning Modern Greek I while they are in Athens. CYA believes that the study of Modern Greek provides valuable access to the life and culture of contemporary Greece and aids in the acculturation of students.
