My summer abroad experience was an amazing way to gain cross-cultural experience and practice interacting with a language barrier. Every day, I was immersed in the culture and able to learn from and interact with the locals. I was able to gain a greater sense of independence during my travels and everyday experiences. My course was focused on Greek Architecture and how the built and natural environment influenced the culture and identity of the Cycladic islands. This class was an amazing way hands-on learning experience and I have been able to take many concepts I learned abroad and apply them to my academic studies at home. One of the best parts of my trip was making lifelong friends with the other students in my class. I also developed a strong relationship with my professor who I admire greatly.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?
My advice to prospective students is to come in with an open mind and be willing to explore and try new things. Some of my favorite memories from my trip were when my friends and I made last-minute plans after class to explore new parts of the cities and islands we were on. Especially during the summer programs, your time is limited and it will fly by, so try to push yourself outside of your comfort zone, even if it just means trying a new food. Also, pack light!
