Going to Greece have me the opportunity to immerse myself in a different culture. I studied Contemporary art in the Greek islands and by going to different exhibitions, I was able to study Greece’s social issues through an artistic perspective. I was, furthermore, able to learn what social views locals value. Overall, I was able to broaden my perspective of social issues and expand what I consider art.
What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?
My advice to prospective students is to take a course they are genuinely interested in. I would also recommend a travel-intensive course because it makes learning enjoyable.
How was the political climate in Greece different from what are you used to? If applicable, describe a time when you had to navigate a political conversation during your time abroad.
Conversations felt less controversial and not everything was centered around politics, but meaningful discussion was still present.
please select any of the following that apply to you, and that you would be willing to share about your CYA experience with other students:
First-generation student, First-time international traveler, Religion, STEM major, Student of color
Briefly describe a cultural experience you had that was significant to you in any way.
I genuinely appreciated the kindness of locals. It made the experience more welcoming and immersive. I will forever travel now with the intention of talking to locals.
