The biggest reason that I think studying abroad is beneficial is the perspective that you gain. While studying abroad with CYA, I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and fully expose myself to things that I would never had engaged in before this experience. The classes I took, the people I met, and the life I lived while studying abroad has taught me so much, not only about the world, but about myself. This was my first time out of the country, so my outlook on the world has truly been expanded and changed for the better. Academically, I feel like I was really able to improve my critical thinking skills and also look at topics I am familiar with through a whole new lens. The connections I was able to make here I know will only help me after graduation when I start to work toward building a professional career in my field.

What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?

The advice that I would give to prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA would be to just be open. Be open to new experiences, new opportunities, new people. You might be uncomfortable or scared, but the rewards of being open truly outweigh any fear.

What I wish I knew before studying abroad is that while yes, you should definitely spend time preparing for your trip, know that you will never truly be completely prepared for the experience, and that is okay. Living a life outside of what is normal for you comes with a learning curve, but everything will work itself out.

How was the political climate in Greece different from what are you used to? If applicable, describe a time when you had to navigate a political conversation during your time abroad.

I think the most prominent difference that I noticed was the number of protests and strikes in Greece are more frequent than from where I am from in the United States. CYA is amazing about informing students about how these strikes and protests will affect life and travel.

please select any of the following that apply to you, and that you would be willing to share about your CYA experience with other students:

Finances, First-generation student, First-time international traveler
