In Athens: Theater of Life – A Soup Kitchen With the Most Michelin Stars

The Embassy of Canada is pleased to announce the screening of the award-winning Canadian documentary film Theater of Life at CineDoc in Athens on December 13 at the Institut français de Grèce (IFG) and the 16 & 17 December at Danaos Cinema in collaboration with non-profit NGO Boroume.

Watch the remarkable story of how renowned chef Massimo Bottura, joined by 60 of the world’s top chefs, transforms food destined for the garbage into delicious meals for Italy’s hungriest residents: refugees, homeless, recovering addicts and others. Theater of Life is full of gastronomic creations from the world’s most famous chefs, such as legendary Ferran Adrià, Alain Ducasse, Mario Batali, René Redzepi, and Gastón Acurio, who bring their knowledge and talent to the soup kitchens.

“What does a plate of food or a home mean for a homeless person or a refugee?” Massimo Bottura argues that chefs can no longer cook for the elite and ignore the ethical and social issues of our time. Director Peter Svatek focuses his lens behind the publicity of celebrity chefs to discover the human face of those involved in this great venture. Who are they and what is their life?

A warm, humane, compassionate look at the world through a gourmet feast.
