Based on your experience with CYA, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester or summer abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

The benefits of spending time abroad are vast. I believe that studying abroad can help a person grow in every aspect of their life, including academics, professional, personal, social, cultural, and financial. One of the main benefits is expanding your worldview and knowledge of other cultures. In my time in Greece I found myself more aware of the cultural differences that exist in the world and felt more like a global citizen. I also developed in my academics because I learned so much new information and also learned how to take in information and apply it outside of a classroom setting. Lastly, I went into CYA not knowing anyone so my social skills were put to the test. I grew so much into myself and my social self. I made wonderful connections that not only made me a better person but will continue to contribute positively to my life as I keep in touch with people from CYA.

What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?

My advice would be to not let fear stop you. Going abroad is scary. Going abroad alone is scary. It is okay to feel nervous and afraid but do not let that fear stop you from going abroad and experiencing such amazing things. The fear and anxiety will be so worth it in the end because you'll have grown so much and gotten to experience life-changing things.

please select any of the following that apply to you, and that you would be willing to share about your CYA experience with other students:

Finances, Greece-based traveler, Mental health

Briefly describe a cultural experience you had that was significant to you in any way.

We had heard the Greeks spend a long time eating meals and just spend that time to sit and talk with friends and family, but was not sure what to expect. One of the first days a group of us went out to grab dinner and we ended up talking and eating in the restaurant for about three hours just getting to know each other.
