Aya Burweila is a widely published expert and public commentator on security with a special focus on Libya. She is the founder and director of the non-profit Code on the Road. She is among the BBC Expert Women in terrorism and radicalization. She is also the Ambassador and Special Envoy of the European Public Law Organization to Libya and North Africa. She is the former head of Research & Public Policy at Solidarity Now, an Athens-based NGO active nation-wide in the field of human rights.

Aya holds a BA in Political Science from the University of La Verne, an MA in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Indianapolis, a certificate in Building Capacities on Arms Control in the MENA Region from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, certificates in Conflict Analysis and Interfaith Conflict Resolution from the United States Institute of Peace, and a certificate in Terrorism Studies from the University of St. Andrews.
