Maria Pothoulaki holds a PhD from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, UK on health psychology and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology also from Glasgow Caledonian University. She is a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.

She has extensive research, clinical and project management experience and has collaborated with several institutions and organisations in the private and public sector, and policy makers in EU countries. Her research interests focus on applied health psychology, chronic illness and public healthas well as on ethics and methodology. Main topics of interest involve psychosocial factors that contribute/have an impact on health and the process of illness. Over the years she has worked in several European and national/local projects focusing on health, public health, nutrition, social integration, social innovation, gender equality and prevention of crime. She has published several papers and has also been invited to review papers in scientific journals. She has extensive expertise in the development of training and teaching material for health professionals and professional researchers.

Currently she is Program Leader in three MSc Psychology courses at Metropolitan College in Athens.
