The Athens Marathon is Back – Congratulations to CYAers that participated!
Last week, the much-anticipated 38th Athens Authentic Marathon took place, after a year’s break due to the outbreak of Covid-19. The Athens Authentic Marathon race follows the route that Pheidippides ran in 490 BCE to announce the news of victory in the Battle of Marathon, before drawing his last breath – a story that inspired all modern Marathons!
This year 22 CYA Students participated in this important event. Each student pushed their own personal limits and finished the race with strong feelings of accomplishment and joy. Congratulations to Noah Knapp, John Cerritelli, Henry Ricker, Brady Sabolik and Peter Gusts who ran the full Marathon race, Hanna Sobhani, Steven Herman, Julia Buntrock, Emma Jones and Bella Hondros who ran the 10k race, and Trevor Nelson, Sara Kelly, Christina Cozad, Emma Zobitz, Erin Quam, Katie Brewer, Regan Dolezal, Mari Hermerding, Mia Sabin, Laura Mitch, Lorra Marseille and Emma Muller who ran the 5K race.
For many students like Brady Sabolik, this was their first Marathon race! “Wow, that was an adventure!” he remarked.
For other CYAers like Lorra Marseille, this was their first time participating in a running race altogether! “The race was amazing! So happy I participated!! Really pushed me as a person” she said after finishing the 5k race.
Zoey Watson, who ran the 10k race said “Running along the main road was so cool, the lights along the racecourse, the cheering πάμε!! πάμε!!, lots of hype squads along the course with drumming, music, and celebration. And at the finish line our friends waited in the stadium to congratulate us! Running in the Athens Authentic Marathons is something that we will remember forever!”
