Studying abroad changed my view of myself in a way that nothing has before. Having the opportunity to completely immerse myself in a different way of life and environment without my friends and family from the US a few steps away to assist me, allowed me to realize just how much I am capable of. I now have experience moving into my own apartment, coordinating travel plans both with others and by myself, and studying new areas of education that I never would have touched at my home university. In addition, I also realized that one can truly make connections anywhere. Not only have I made life-long friendships with those at CYA whom I would have never met otherwise, but I made unexpected friends with other American students who I worked alongside at my internship in Greece as well as those who worked at the coffee shop that I visited daily. Despite not living in Greece anymore, my life feels truly fuller with these new people and experiences in it. I know that in every future step I take in life, whether it be a new work opportunity or simply trying out a new hobby/activity in my area, CYA will have enabled me to approach it confidently and openly.

What advice do you have for prospective students who are interested in or planning to study abroad with CYA?

Experience as much as you can! Studying abroad, especially in Greece, is all about taking part in new opportunities, meeting new people, and learning as much as possible. Take everything that you are able in and spend your time abroad being open and positive! Also, go to Kekkos for coffee and drinks!!

Please select any of the following that apply to you, and that you would be willing to share about your CYA experience with other students:

Finances, LGBTQIA+ student, Mental health
